One bold wall can carry a whole room — or fight it. After hundreds of feature walls, we have learned the pattern: the winners follow the room's logic, the losers follow a whim.
Pick the wall with a job
The right accent wall already does something: it holds the bed, the sofa, the fireplace or the TV. Colour there feels intentional. A random side wall with a door punched through it rarely earns the drama.
Three mistakes we repaint most
- Too timid — a shade barely darker than the rest, reading as a mistake
- Ignoring light — north-facing rooms swallowing already-dark colours
- Stopping at the wall — skirting and shelves left in clashing white
Go bolder than you think
Small samples lie. A colour that looks brave on a swatch settles once it is surrounded by furniture and daylight. We paint metre-wide brush-outs and live with them for a day before committing — clients almost always go one shade deeper than their first pick.
